Federal judge dismisses Diversity Visa lawsuit

A federal judge Thursday threw out a class-action lawsuit filed by a group of people who were told they had won a chance to obtain a United States green card only to learn later that the Diversity Visa lottery was invalidated because of a computer glitch. Florida immigration attorneys are aware that U.S. immigration law offers a variety of avenues to permanent residency in the United States.

Immigration reform measure introduced in Senate

An immigration reform bill was introduced Wednesday in the United States Senate. The proposed measure seeks comprehensive immigration reform with provisions allowing for pathways to permanent residency for undocumented immigrants, a provision implicating businesses and a provision re-introducing the DREAM Act.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have a number of opportunities for foreign nationals to seek visas or residency in the United States. President Obama reportedly has held a second meeting in Washington to discuss immigration reform. Thursday the president met with a number of celebrities and members of Hispanic media programs. A dozen people were invited to the meeting in the White House Roosevelt Room.

The President says that immigration reform is an issue that he continues to pursue during his presidency, but says in a statement issued this week by the White House he "cannot be successful if he is leading the debate alone."

CBO: Family Ties Leads Those Granted Permanent U.S. Residency

A recent report from the Congressional budget Office says that 1.1 million individuals were granted green cards in 2009. The government gives green cards to individual granted permanent admission to the country.
