Johnson & Johnson reaches settlement for faulty medical device

When a person goes to their doctor with a medical problem and their doctor recommends a procedure that involves a medical device, the patient assumes this device will improve their life. Most of the time this is the case, but occasionally a medical device causes more harm than good.

Johnson & Johnson has been facing thousands of lawsuits in regards to a medical device they produced for pelvic prolapse. The Prolift mesh implant was used in many surgeries for women who have a pelvic floor disorder. For many women, the implant caused unexpected and severe injuries. A woman and her husband filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson and recently received a $35 million settlement for her injuries.

No one expects their medical device will cause more harm to their medical condition. These are scary instances where a victim may not know what has happened. If a person believes they have been the victim of a faulty medical device, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in personal injury. An attorney can review medical records and investigate what happened to cause the unexpected injury. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

Medical devices are supposed to help a patient do better with their medical condition. Occasionally a medical device has problems and causes a patient severe harm. These products may have been rushed to market without adequate testing or they may have had inherent problems. Regardless of what has caused a patient's additional injuries, a company needs to be held responsible for their negligence.
