Wrongful death suit filed against Coney Island Hospital

On Behalf of | Jun 8, 2016 | Wrongful Death |

Hospitals are meant to be safe places; institutions of healing and trust. However, there are some instances in which that trust is broken. While there is little reason to expect these occurrences (and also little reason to assume malicious intent), these types of mistakes can cause irreparable damage to the lives of those they affect. A recent incident in New York illustrates this point.

A woman died at Coney Island Hospital from a meningitis infection after being left untreated. The woman was examined by a nurse and physician’s assistant and was mistakenly identified to be reacting from an overdose of synthetic marijuana. She was prescribed anti-psychotic medication, but later went into cardiac arrest and died. The woman’s husband has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital.

When someone dies due to the negligence of another party, a wrongful death suit may be an option to recover damages stemming from the loss. Elements such as medical expenses, loss of wages, funeral expenses and more can sometimes be recovered by such suits.

This path, understandably, can be extremely difficult to navigate. Not only is the emotional fallout very stressful, but the legal process can be complicated as well. Seeking the assistance of an experienced attorney can assist those going through such situations. Nothing can bring back a loved one, but seeking a positive outcome from a wrongful death suit can hopefully provide a less-stressful path moving forward.
