What are some statistics about motorcyclists in the U.S.?

As a motorcyclist in Florida, you are at risk every time you drive on the roadways. Other drivers may not always see you, your motorcycle or perceive you as being as close to them as you are. Because of your lack of protection in a crash, you're more likely to be seriously injured or even killed.

You have a number of freedoms as a motorcyclist; you don't have as much metal around you, allowing your vehicle to weigh less and be more easily maneuvered. You can feel the wind on you, and you're much closer to the elements, This may make you enjoy your ride, but it does put you at risk. Unfortunately, not having the protection cars provide can lead to serious problems.

Motorcyclists are around 26 times more likely to die in a crash than those who are driving or riding in a passenger vehicle. On top of that, motorcyclists are five times more likely to be injured than passengers in passenger vehicles. Those statistics are frighteningly high for motorcyclists who have every right to be on the roads.

Since 1999, the number of motorcycle crashes with fatalities has more than doubled. That, as a motorcyclist, should be concerning, because your life is in jeopardy every time you ride your motorcycle. With problems like visual recognition of your bike being difficult and weather obscuring another driver seeing you, you could risk being hit by a vehicle. Additionally, road hazards that cars can easily handle -- like potholes or bumps -- can cause problems for motorcyclists, causing crashes and potentially injuries.
