What are some motorcycle injury statistics in Florida?

As a motorcyclist, it's important to know the driving statistics in your area. If it's incredibly dangerous to drive your motorcycle in your area, then you may be able to make better decisions about your routes or even the time of day you head out on the road.

In Florida, the number of motorcycle fatalities and injuries reportedly grew so much between 2000 and 2008 that they had nearly doubled. Between 2008 and 2011, there was a 10.4 percent reduction in the number of crashes, though. The decrease in injuries has been somewhat attributed to the Florida-based Motorcycle Safety Coalition's new ride training requirements.

Reports show that in 2011, more people between the age of 25 and 34 were fatally injured in motorcycle traffic crashes than people in any other age group. Of those who were fatally injured, the trend was for their age to be 40 years old. The age groups including the 35- to 44-year-olds and the 45- to 54-year-olds had the highest number of total crashes with injuries for males; in total, there were 2,408 men involves in crashes in Florida who were injured.

Living in Florida, it's important to know that it's a popular place for tourists to visit. Motorcycle enthusiast events take place in the state often. Interestingly, 91 percent of the motorcyclists who were fatally injured in Florida in 2011 were residents of the state. The most deadly county was reported as being Miami-Dade.

You may also be interested in knowing that 49 percent of the motorcyclist hospitalization and emergency department visits weren't covered by commercial insurance; that means the victims would have had to seek compensation through other means.
