Because of the almost certain accident that awaits those who travel the wrong way on Florida roads, one woman has chosen to start an online petition to the governor for a better way to prevent such actions. Suggestions have included spikes or bigger, more visible signs.
The woman who started the petition said that a 42-year-old man killed in a motorcycle accident caused by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 95 South was her best friend. The horrifying impact of the accident threw the victim’s body through the wrong-way driver’s windshield and into the back seat. It was there that the man died from catastrophic injuries.
Police received multiple 911 calls from motorists who were trying to help the victim and the driver of the car. The driver was transported to JMH Trauma. Police said they are waiting for a toxicology report before any charges are filed against the driver.
The victim’s best friend said that the motorcyclist’s dog, Diamond, was “his absolute world.” She also said that he was “an amazing person” who did “everything for everyone.” She hopes the petition will help convince the state to change interstate designs to prevent such an accident from occurring again.
Accidents that occur because of reckless or negligent actions often result in serious injuries or death. Criminal charges are often filed in such cases, giving the victims and their families some measure of justice. However, charges are not required for someone who has suffered injuries or for the family of someone who has been killed to seek compensation from the at-fault driver.
