Trooper injured while leading funeral procession in Florida

When you're in an accident while on your motorcycle, you could be facing serious injuries that can change your life. You may be unable to walk, have a concussion or suffer from other injuries that require time off work or long hours spent in rehabilitation. If your injuries are the result of a person's negligence, such as in the following accident, you may want to consider seeking compensation for your injuries, damages and losses.

This report from May 5 shows that some drivers may need to relearn the rules of the road. According to the story, a Florida Highway Patrol motorcycle trooper was leading a funeral procession when a driver broke through the 10-unit procession. That caused the trooper to crash into the vehicle. The 45-year-old trooper was leading a procession in honor of another trooper who had just been killed that weekend in an auto accident on I-75.

As the procession had been approaching Lemon Street and U.S. 27-441's intersection around noon, the 2007 Mercedes entered the intersection. When the car broke into the procession, the 45-year-old trooper on a motorcycle collided with the vehicle and was ejected from his motorcycle. The trooper was wearing a helmet, according to the news, and was taken to The Villages Regional Hospital.

The 66-year-old driver of the vehicle was ticketed on the scene for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. The driver allegedly claimed to have a green light and didn't know what was going on. However, the trooper had already been established in the intersection, and the car should not have entered.

Funeral processions are often led by officers who are on motorcycles, especially in warm weather. It's important for motorists to remember to listen and look before entering an intersection, as police have the right of way in most instances, and funeral processions have special laws that apply to them on the roads.
