This story about a woman killed in Miramar may not surprise you, since she was a pedestrian at the time of the crash and the roadways in Florida can be dangerous at night. According to the news out of Florida, the woman was killed by a tractor-trailer passing through the area. The March 27 report claims that the 49-year-old woman was using her electric wheelchair when she was hit, and the tractor-trailer driver may not have been aware that she had been struck until he was much further down the road.
According to the news, the woman was dragged for a distance because of the driver being unaware of the accident. The trucking accident happened at around 10:00 p.m., so he may not have been able to see her in the dark along the streets. He had been turning to head south on University Drive near Miramar Parkway, according to the story.
Reports claim that he was flagged down by a motorist because of the noticeable sparks coming from the accident-related debris trapped under the vehicle. It’s not clear if the woman was still trapped under the vehicle as well at that point. Right now, the police allegedly believe that this was an accident, so no charges have been filed.
However, the case is still open and being investigated, so charges could be placed later. Reports claim that the driver of the tractor-trailer was distraught after the accident. If any negligence is found in the situation, whether from drinking and driving, being distracted, or driving recklessly, the driver could have charges placed against him in the future. This is a good story to look at for why both drivers and pedestrians should be sure to watch where they are going, no matter what time of day it is.
