Officer crashes into Florida woman's car, causes her death

When you're dealing with the death of a loved one, there are many things to take care of, from medical bills to funeral costs. In cases of a wrongful death, you may also be involved in a lawsuit to reclaim some of your costs. In this case discussed on Feb. 20, a woman was killed when a state trooper's vehicle struck hers on Interstate 95.

The woman, who was from Florida, was impacted by the Savannah-based Georgia State Patrol vehicle in McIntosh County at around 7:45 p.m. At that time, she was driving north in the middle lane of the highway heading toward the Liberty County line. The woman was driving carefully, signalling to the left to pass traffic before moving to the inside lane.

So far, the investigations into the accident do show that the woman was driving properly on the roads. But, that didn't prevent the accident. According to the article, the front right part of the officer's vehicle hit the rear of the woman's car. That resulted in her vehicle being pushed to the left, traveling to the eastern roadway, and then overturning a number of times before coming to rest.

Unfortunately, the woman died at the scene of the accident. The officer, who wasn't injured during the accident, was said to have given CPR and aid to the woman. Now, the officer, a 41-year-old man, has been put onto administrative leave while an investigation into the accident is completed. Reports from the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety claim that the man has never been in any other wrecks during his time with the State Patrol. The investigation is including a crash reconstruction team to determine the reason the officer struck the woman.
