On Behalf of | Mar 21, 2014 | Car Accidents |

In Florida, Bike Week is very popular, and there are always many pedestrians and motorcyclists on and around the roads. Unfortunately, three pedestrians have been hit at the event this year. The driver who struck them in the car accident was allegedly drunk at the time.

According to the story, the driver, a 52-year-old woman, was driving on U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach when she struck three pedestrians who were crossing the highway. The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. and the area was highly populated by those arriving for Bike Week. The news states that the three walked in front of the vehicle when they were hit and were not walking in the lighted areas set up for Bike Week participants.

A 44-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A 61-year-old man and a 52-year-old man were also taken to the hospital for injuries. They were said to be in serious condition following the accident. While all three victims were in serious shape following the accident, they are expected to survive.

Three hours after the incident, police reported that they gave the driver a Breathalyzer test. She was well over the legal limit, blowing a .104. Despite this, the police have indicated that they believe the victims had walked out in front of her vehicle, and they were not believed to have been in a crosswalk. However, even though this is the case, the fact that the driver was allegedly drunk means that she could be held liable for the victims’ injuries. She is being held on a $10,000 bond, according to the news, and she will be in court again shortly.
