Shutdown affects immigration cases

Due to the federal government shutdown in late 2013, many people in Florida and around the country had their hearings delayed for months or years. These individuals were waiting to apply for asylum or for legal permanent resident status.

If you've been reading the news in Florida, you might have heard about this awful accident that happened. According to the news about the motorcycle crashes in Southwest Miami-Dade County, six motorcyclists had to be taken to area hospitals when a van allegedly swerved into their lane and struck them. Immigration rulings trending against government

Florida is a popular destination for immigrants to the United States, and readers may be interested in a recently-developing trend. Nearly half of those who are living here illegally are now successful when they stand trial for deportation in immigration court. The trend has been moving away from the government since 2009.

Immigration requirements loosening

Florida could be one of the states that is most impacted by one of the immigration changes introduced by the Obama administration. Some people who are trying to come to the United States to flee from persecution in other countries may now find that process easier, even if they have provided some support to terrorist groups in the past. The State Department and the Department of Homeland Security are now taking the position that people who have given support to terrorists won't be automatically prevented from coming to the U.S.

Florida is beautiful at almost any time of year, and there are always those who enjoy bicycling or riding motorcycles in the sun. Unfortunately, these individuals could be involved in serious accidents on the road that could hurt or kill them. Car accidents are one of the few things that can seriously hurt pedestrians on the roads, and they usually can be avoided simply by having drivers pay better attention.

DACA opens up new options for immigrants

Some Florida immigrants who have not received residency status and fear driving without a license or being discovered by immigration officials have hope through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. This federal program allows some individuals to receive a work permit, eligibility for a driver's license and a two-year exemption from potential deportation. The fee for the application is $465, which has deterred some potential applicants, and the time that it takes to process the applications varies.
