An America’s Best Drivers report issued by Allstate Insurance in Aug. 2013 reveals that some cities in the U.S. see up to two to three times as many car accidents on an annual basis than others. Across the nation, the average person gets into a car accident once every 10 years. The cities that made the top of Allstate’s list included Florida’s own Hialeah along with Baltimore and Providence, Rhode Island.
The cities in the country showed a range of an average of one accident per 4.8 years to one accident per 13.9 years. More populated cities had a higher rate of accidents overall than more rural cities. The city with the highest average rate of accidents was the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.
The safest city in the country in terms of accident frequency was Fort Collins, Colorado. Other safer-driving cities included Boise, Idaho, Madison, Wisconsin, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The data showed that larger cities may have a higher instance of crashes due to the larger populations, greater amounts of traffic and more frequent emergencies that clog the roadways. However, smaller cities are not without their risks; rural areas tend to have higher speed limits, which means that the car accidents that drivers do get involved in may be more severe.
Dealing with insurance companies and medical bills following an accident can be a hassle, especially when there are multiple parties involved. Drivers and pedestrians in larger cities may want to consult a personal injury attorney in the event that they are injured in a car accident. Even if a person sustains minor injuries, an attorney may be able to ensure that the person responsible for the accident pays for the associated costs.
