Police: SUV turned in front of motorcycle in fatal Florida crash

A collision between a car and a motorcycle rarely favors the motorcyclist. The difference in mass between a motorcycle and a car, SUV or truck means that when a motorcycle accident occurs, the cyclist is likely to end up with serious injuries.

A tragic motorcycle accident recently happened on the west coast of Florida. The crash occurred in the afternoon hours of Feb. 28 and resulted in the death a 40-year-old man from Fort Myers. The collision involved a motorcycle and a Ford Expedition.

Cape Coral police report that the 32-year-old driver of the SUV and her passenger were driving southbound, and the motorcycle was traveling north. As the vehicles approached an intersection, the car turned into the oncoming motorcycle's path.

The vehicles collided, and the impact ejected bike rider while the fuel tank of the SUV ruptured. Both vehicles burst into flames. While the driver of the SUV and her passenger were uninjured, the 40-year-old motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Surviving family members of fatal accident victims should be aware of their legal rights to hold negligent drivers accountable. If negligence is identified as the cause of a crash, then filing a wrongful death lawsuit is a way to receive financial relief from medical expenses, loss of future income, funeral expenses and pain and suffering.
