43-year-old woman dies after Miami hit-and-run

On Behalf of | Mar 26, 2013 | Car Accidents |

A 43-year-old woman succumbed from her injuries on March 10 after a hit-and-run driver drove into her as she crossed the street near her home in Miami. She suffered very serious injuries from the fatal accident, including damage to her head, a fractured skull, a swollen brain and a severely fractured left arm. She remained in a coma after being transported to a medical facility.

The car that hit her as she was walking to her car on the evening of the incident reportedly kept going. Neighbors who were interviewed after the event noted that the four-way-stop in the area is rarely heeded, and another neighbor added that it was common for people to drive at excessive speeds. Neither of the neighbors interviewed were present when the accident happened. However, law enforcement personnel hope that someone can offer a tip that leads to the motorist. No information about the vehicle is available, but police suspect it may have sustained front end damage.

The Florida International University student from Eastern Europe was in Florida working on her doctorate. Her younger sister remained by her bedside praying for her recovery, and her parents flew over from Europe. Her family is urging the public to come forward with details in order to help find the responsible motorist.

After an individual dies in or as a result of a hit-and-run accident, his or her family may need compensation for medical expenses and funeral costs in addition to seeing justice served. A personal injury attorney might be able to help them pursue a claim to obtain this compensation once the hit-and-run perpetrator is found and charged.
